New Village Hall starts to take shape

Construction is now underway on Thakeham’s new village hall within the landmark Abingworth Meadows development, where Chairman of the Parish Council, Alan Hunt, was invited by Oakford Homes to lay one of the first bricks.

Alan is pictured here in front of the steel frame of the village hall with Mike Lenton, project manager at Oakford Homes, and Brendon Schooling, the site manager who responsible for construction of the impressive new homes and the numerous new amenities at Abingworth Meadows.

“This is unique in terms of the scale of new facilities being created for the village,” said Alan Hunt. “We’re really very fortunate, the new village hall will bring a fresh vibrancy to the community, with a stage for theatre productions, a badminton court and plenty of space for activities. Thakeham’s residents will have a great facility which will be able to cater for the needs of all ages right across the community.”

The hub of amenities at Abingworth Meadows is due to include a village shop, cricket pitch with pavilion, football pitches with changing rooms, pre-school and of course the new village hall. It will create a new focal point conveniently situated for Thakeham’s residents who enjoy an active lifestyle or one of the many interest groups in the local community.

When Alan and his wife moved back to the UK from overseas, they soon chose to settle in Thakeham. “I just love being part of this community. There is a neighbourhood plan in place, a vision for the future of the village and the community. We are always keen to hear from local residents who would like to be involved in the parish council activities and anyone interested to learn more is welcome to step forward.”

Mike Lenton, project manager at Oakford Homes, added, “It’s always great to see a new development taking shape but Abingworth Meadows is genuinely exceptional with such a range of amenities planned. We’re very proud of the entire project which has been designed in close collaboration with Abingworth Homes, Horsham District Council and of course, Alan and his colleagues at Thakeham Parish Council.”
