“The best housewarming gift we could have asked for!”

“The best housewarming gift we could have asked for!”

As an art history teacher, Penny Huntsman is used to looking closely at the all important details so when she and her husband, Mark, visited the show house at Abingworth Meadows in Thakeham, they were immediately impressed.

“I love old houses but these new homes were so different from anything we’d seen before.” said Penny. “I think my husband was tired of all my renovations so when we decided to move out of Horsham, he suggested we look at new homes. I already knew the area around Thakeham, the walks and the village pub. For me it’s about the location, getting away from it all in the countryside, and the promise of a quality build.”

Mark and Penny were the first to move in at Abingworth Meadows with their son William, 11, and the family’s little Welsh terrier, Teddy.  Will has two older siblings, Hannah and Laurie, both of whom are away at university but have been very impressed with their new country residence. They chose one of the elegant, detached homes facing directly on to the new cricket green which also has the added benefit of a south west facing garden.

“It’s been a bit of a revelation moving here,” admitted Penny. “The aspect is fantastic and the house is very light, especially the open plan kitchen which has worked well for us - when the sun’s out, it’s lovely.”

The Huntsmans are planning to keep their separate lounge more formal, decorated with the timeless style of William Morris to bring together traditional and modern interior design.

The helpful service they received from Oakford Homes was equally impressive throughout the buying process from the site sales team to the directors.  Penny singled out Val Austen for a special mention. Val has worked with Oakford Homes for eight years and takes care of customers during the handover and completion of their property, helping them to settle in quickly.

“Val is lovely, she’s the best housewarming gift we could have asked for!” said Penny. “She was here to welcome us on moving day and had even put the heating on to keep the house warm to receive us. Her thoughtfulness during that day really meant a lot to me, she’s a very warm-hearted lady.”

Oakford Homes take a great deal of time and care over their customer service as well as the quality of their homes at Abingworth Meadows, where the show home is open daily from 10am to 5pm (01798 879140), email abingworth@oakfordhomes.co.uk. Current prices for the detached family houses range from £715,000.

Abingworth Meadows has proven the ideal move for the Huntsmans who are now looking forward to their first summer in their new home.

“These homes are really quite special,” said Penny. “For a new development, the low density and the arrangement of homes around the cricket pitch seems quintessentially English. It’s as close to the village idyll as we can get.”
