Making the choice to move to a more manageable home isn’t an easy one, but for David Johnson* it turned out better than anticipated when he discovered the new homes at Abingworth Meadows in Thakeham.
“Downsizing was always going to be an emotional upheaval after 23 years in my home. It’s quite a strange feeling and takes time to adjust. But I have two or three friends who’ve also recently downsized and I’ve certainly had the best experience,” says David.
David had been looking at property across the southern counties from his previous home in East Sussex to Hampshire where his extended family live. When a friend was visiting Arundel Wetlands Centre, they took the time to visit Abingworth Meadows in Thakeham village and were impressed by the quality of design and standards produced by Oakford Homes.
“They phoned me to say that these were good quality homes and suggested that I come to have a look around. I know the area well, as I used to have a boat moored at Ford and we’d come up to this area along the river and have picnics.
“In the sales office I met Fred, a charming sales lady. Actually all three ladies in the sales office are very charming, very good and very professional. I was so impressed with everything I saw, including the prices. So I reserved there and then.”
David eventually chose a house set back within a small cul-de-sac and close to open fields. “My home office is in one of the bedrooms which looks straight down the road to a central water feature, and that view will never change which is reassuring.
“My daughter arranged for new blinds all through but other than that, everything was ready for me to move in so I’ve had to do nothing to the home but fit my furniture in, although of course I brought far too much so I’m still getting straight.”
Neighbours have also moved in so the new community at Abingworth Meadows is taking shape. More than 60% of the homes have been sold but a wide selection is currently available priced from £409,950, including substantial 3 and 4 bedroom high quality homes.
“The after sales service from Oakford Homes is as good as the pre-sales service,” David added. “It’s reassuring to know that the builder, Oakford Homes, is there not just to sell you the property but to make sure you can settle in and enjoy your home. Very little has gone wrong, and when it has, it’s been minor and it’s been put right with a smile.”
